I was recently at a NAIOP event, the first one in person for a couple of years – and without a mask. It was so freeing! It made me think about all the young men and women I’ve had the privilege of working with over my 30+ year career in commercial real estate. It also made me think about the power of mentorship. Not necessarily a structured mentorship, but just the sheer power of walking alongside someone more experienced and knowledgeable in your field.
Mentorship, in all aspects of life, is a great opportunity. It reminded me of my parents. I’m so fortunate to have had the opportunity to walk with some great people who taught me so much. I hope I’ve imparted some of that knowledge to those that I have mentored. I have been fortunate enough to watch some of them become great brokers.
To be a mentor, you have to have gained your knowledge and experience from a mentor before you. Even though there were times when I was the teacher, I must say I spent more time learning than teaching. What a great experience. I hope that I have been able to give just a little of what I have learned to others.

I love this circle of life we see in CRE mentorship. Thank you to everyone in my career who has helped me grow and I hope I’ve had a positive impact on those who I’ve been fortunate enough to walk alongside you in your journey.
